Looking for the summer dress of your comfort dreams? Turn your favourite T-shirt pattern into this dress. Yep, you’ll learn how to hack your t-shirt pattern and draft it into a pattern for this fab-u-lous dress. With pockets!!!

Three summers ago I hacked my favourite t-shirt pattern into this dress. I’ve since made it up three times! And I often get asked for the pattern. So, now this is your opportunity to get your hands on a copy of your own – you just need to draft it first!

You’ll learn how to take your basic t-shirt pattern, and turn it into pattern pieces for this dress and then you’ll be ready to go. If time permits, we will get your fabric cut out and start sewing.

This is such a great introduction into how to pattern hack beyond what you think is possible. It’s not hard to do, and it will give you a new understanding of how pattern pieces come together. Once you’ve learned the basics from this class, they pattern hacking sky truly is the limit.

And when one of your sewing friends says to you Great Dress, Whose Dress Pattern Is That? You can say Thanks, I Hacked It, It Has Pockets!

Requirements:

  • You need to have a traced copy of your favourite t-shirt pattern (if you don’t have a favourite yet, check out some of these choices Hey June Union Street Tee, French Navy Now Stellan Tee (free pattern), The Sewing Revival Skullduggery Tee) (please note the Skullduggery Tee is a raglan sleeve and would look different to the dress I have made – it would still look bloody marvelous though!!)
  • 2m of knit fabric, including some for contrast panels if adding these (you could also take the opportunity to use up some scraps of fabric for your first one and treat it as a wearable fugly (muslin) ).

  • At this level, we expect you to be using your own sewing machine or overlocker

Skill Level: Fearless Beginnger and beyond:  You will be a confident sewster, and be very familiar with sewing knit fabrics. You would have also tackled a few patterns already and have a good understanding of commercial patterns.
