11 Hours total over 2 days

Saturday, April 10th and 17th

10am – 4.00pm (1/2 hour for lunch)

Classes are limited to 4

Making jeans is absolutely in your reach, it’s just like sewing a regular, everyday pattern.

Sure there are oodles of pieces to jeans, plus the zipper fly, or button fly if making the Morgans (worth mentioning that a button fly is a tad easier than a zip fly – just saying). Rivets, topstitching, back pockets. But do you know what this really means? A great project that is so worth sinking your teeth into.

Choose either Morgan Boyfriend Jeans or Ginger Jeans, both patterns are by the fabulous Heather of Closet Core Patterns.

I have hardware kits available as well, just chose this option along with the pattern on the drop down menu.

I know you can do it!

NB: This MasterClass focuses on jeans making, we will be able to cover basic fitting issues but this is not a pants fitting class.

  • Choose either Closet Case Ginger Jeans or Closet Case Morgan Boyfriend Jeans
  • Stretch Denim for Ginger Jeans & Non-Stretch Denim for Morgans (but you can totally make the Morgans in a stretch denim too – they work really well in a stretch)
  • To learn to sew with denim, you do need to use denim for the muslin.
  • Cotton fabric if your pattern requires lining for pockets etc
  • Bring all the notions you need to sew, eg: thread, Jeans needles, scissors etc, plus notions/zip as per pattern requirements (a hardware kit is available for purchase, it includes rivets, zip (if doing the fly zipper)  & buttons)
  • A walking foot is highly recommended if sewing stretch denim
  • At this level, we expect you to be using your own sewing machine

Workshop Pre-work

The focus of this class is to learn how to make jeans, therefore pre-work is required. If purchasing your pattern from SoS, the cost of postage is included so you can trace your pattern onto paper/violene (if that’s what you choose to do) and have your pattern and fabric cut out and ready to go before class starts.

*Please note that some homework may be required to keep on track. Because Sewsters work at different speeds, and there is no pressure to work at the same speed as other participants, every endeavour is made to get you to complete your garment, but sometimes a follow up class may be required.

Skill Level: Fearless Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced: You will be a confident Sewster, having tackled a few patterns already and have a good understanding of commercial patterns. If you are a confident beginner, you are more than welcome to attend this workshop – learning & developing these techniques early in your sewing journey could make you a fearless Sewster!
