I’ve met some shifty linens in my time. But this one just might be the worst yet!!! And it wasn’t cheap either, so shifty and expensive!!! I think I could handle shifty & cheap, or expensive and well behaved. But shifty & expensive just takes the cake 🤯.

This is @helens__closet #gilberttop. There have been so many great ones made at the Studio by Sewsters, I thought I should add one to my repertoire.

I made size 14 in the B cup. At the Studio I was able to try on @p_lysaght version (her one is awesome)- same size, D cup block. It was an excellent fit. This one fits really well, but the size 14 D cup had a bit more room without looking too big. So if you’re on the fence whether to make the B or D block & want a bit more room without it looking too oversized, go for the D block sizing. I was initially going to make the D block, but thought it would be a great idea to make the B block for comparison- basically I took one for the team 😜 (and quite pleased it paid off 😅). I lengthened this by 1 inch, no other mods.

I quite like it. I’m gonna make sure I wear it considering how much trouble it gave me lol. The fabric was from stash and bought about 3 years ago. Have I mentioned it’s see through??? So not only was this fabric a shifty sucker to sew - but it’s see through, so a singlet needs to be worn as well.

This sort of looks the same as my fav from last summer Donny Shirt, almost the same colour, just a slightly different hue 🤭 - but I know they are different patterns, even if Jo Bloggs doesn’t. One has buttons, one doesn’t - so same, same, same but different lol.

This make was quick and easy. Instructions, as always with Helen’s patterns, really thorough.

Will I make another one? Quite possibly, but next time, keen to make the version without the tie front. In fact - the version without the tie front will make an excellent MTBing top.

I didn’t realise how much I’d like a zip front sweatshirt. My blue MTBing one gets thoroughly thrashed on and off my bike, and quite often worn to yoga. So the decision was made to make one specifically for yoga/everyday wear so no chance of getting mud on it. It’s the @greenstyle_patterns #gstrailjacket

The embroidery is my fav Not Fragile Like A Flower, Fragile Like A Bomb & was supposed to be an inch lower - not sure how I messed that measurement up lol. Probably because I wasn’t concentrating hard enough 🤔. This happens a lot 😅. And is getting worse as I get older.

I made these @greenstyle_patterns #gsbrooklynjogger back in April and they have been thrashed all through winter. Unsure why they haven’t made it on to the grid earlier. The fabric for the joggers was from stash & purchased from Blackbird fabrics about 6 years ago. I had a wee bit of it left over and it paired fabulously with this Sportswear Marle grey fabric. Which just happens to be from the most fabulous Helen @nelliejoans (I think this colour has sold out).

Worn to yoga today, got asked where I got it from ‘thanks I made it. Was then asked if I’d make them one. Ah, that would be a no. She got a bit antsy I said no. Can you believe it! Like seriously WTF.

Oh hi 🤩! It’s me. I feel like I’ve been MIA from IG lol. I’ve been working on my MTBing gear and Woot!!! Finally. I get to wear a fun pair of cycling shorts/bibs. The pattern is @fehrtrade #rouleurleggings (more dets about the pattern another day. Fair to say - it’s brilliant). This is a wearable fugly, I dived right in and used the good fabric because life’s too short to let the good fabric stay in the stash pile. Plus, they use such a small amount of each fabric when mixing up the colours/prints I have oodles left over to make my next pair.

The chamois was a bit of a munter to put in in the round. I did baste fit it four 🤪 times to see if it was in the right place. Each time I went for a ride to see if OK, so it was a slow process getting them perfect. Next pair I will sew the chamois in the flat (I’m pretty sure I can) seeing as I have the positioning worked out. The FOE around the neckband is a cheapie - it stretched like a bitch when sewing & is a bit flimsy, thankfully still perfectly functional when worn.

The plan is to have my bibs/chamois for wearing under my MTBing shorts (yet to be made) longer than my shorts so you can see them peeking out. I told Hubs that I also want a few pairs to be able to be worn on their own - he looked horrified, until I figured out he thought that I meant with no tshirt over the top 😱. Once I stopped laughing I told him I couldn’t do that to the MTBing community 🤪🤣😅 and would indeed be wearing tops.

The psychedelic/hippy Lycra print is from @spoonflower, it’s called 1960_Psychedelic Flower Power Fabric by artist mia_valdez. It’s amazing 😍. The solids are my most fav supplex from Helen @nelliejoans. I also bought the print in a sport pique fabric - so good for T-shirts!!! Gonna be perfect for the matching top. And if you flick across and use your imagination you’ll see the colour of the shorts for this ensemble 🤩 & how good it will look.

My MTBing is improving leaps and bounds. And the desire to be the best dressed when shredding trails is strong.

NB: not only is the chamois hard to sew, but photographing the shorts was a mission too 🤪😬😅

Be prepared to see me wearing my new wrap skirt by @freuleins.de #freuleinsrockvienna a fair bit. 🤩. After making & thrashing my lilac denim skirt from end of last year, I thought it would be a bloody grand idea to add another denim skirt to the wardrobe.

And when I saw ‘at’ _anja.78 ‘s version of the #freuleinsrockvienna, I knew that at some stage I’d be making my own with selvedge denim.

I also wanted an opportunity to embroider circle pockets again, this time with a more contrasting thread so they stand out. And stand out they do 🤩. A couple of easy mods to the back - I added a seam in the centre back so I could topstitch, and two back pockets instead of one.

This selvedge denim is from the fabulous peeps at @fabricbox_morningside . I didn’t pre wash as this was the most common suggestion on the internet. So it’s still pretty stiff, but I’m planning on wearing this plenty so it should soften. Hardly any blue dye transfer onto my hands when I was sewing this up. Pleasantly surprised by that.

The pattern is in German, I used google translate to help. But basically I just used gut instinct & experience to sew this up. I referred to the photos that are in the instructions occasionally, but the construction order was quite different to how I’d sew a skirt.

There’s plenty of coverage for a wrap skirt due to the clever drafting, I’ve added some photos so you can see what I’m talking about.

The pattern has a tie wrap option as well. I think if this was made up in a softer cotton twill or linen the tie option would be fab.

My new skirt made its debut last night, I had the most fabulous time in Matakana, catching up with other sewing lovelies. A few I knew already and a few I meet for the first time. Such a great night.

And if you’re a certain age, there’s a song from the band Ultravox called Vienna. One of my all time fav songs and it has pretty special place in my heart 🩷. So many great memories whenever I listen to that song. This skirt will forever remind me of that song, as it popped up on Spotify as I was sewing on Friday. Serendipitous for sure.
