Got some questions? Here are some of our Frequently Asked ones…

I need some clothes altered, will you do this for me?2023-10-23T11:22:25+13:00

No, Studio of Sewing is a teaching studio and does not offer alteration services.

Still have a question? Contact us!

Is the Studio available for individual use or do you rent out your sewing machines?2023-10-23T11:21:57+13:00

No, the Studio is only available for use when classes or workshops are being held, and sewing machines are only for hire when being used for classes.

Do you offer private tuition?2023-10-23T11:19:36+13:00

Yes!! One on One Private Tuition is available and can be scheduled around the classes and workshops. Advance registration is required. Private Tuition is $95 per hour, with a minimum of 2 hours. If you would like to book Two on One Private Tuition, the cost is $110 per hour with a minimum of two hours.

What happens if I miss one of the classes?2023-10-23T11:18:44+13:00

If you miss a class due to unforeseen circumstances, depending on your level – you may be able to catch up at home or catch up in the following class. As you’re buying your place in class, I am unable to sell that space to anyone else, which is why there are no refunds or transfers to another day. If you are a regular Freestyler, you’ll be able to catch up in your next Freestyle class. Please contact Karina to work out the best way to move forward.

It’s very important if you’re enrolled in the Beginners Dressmaking Course that you attend all sessions. The first two weeks are the most important and missing either of these classes means you will not be able to complete the course. Refunds or transfers are not available if you decide to not attend any of the 4 weeks you’ve scheduled in for.

What happens once I have booked a class?2023-10-23T11:18:03+13:00

You will receive an email confirmation once payment has been received. At least a week before the first class, you will receive an email with information about what to expect and what materials (if any) are required for the first class.

I have enrolled in a class but it doesn’t work with my schedule. Can I get a refund?

Once you have booked a class, it is non-refundable and non-transferable. Please check your schedule ahead of booking to ensure that you can attend all classes. By submitting your payment, you accept these terms and conditions set out in our cancellation policy.

What are your hours?2023-10-23T11:17:31+13:00

SoS is not a retail business and will only be open when classes or workshops are being held. Registration for classes is done online, by email or by calling Karina. Because we can’t take calls when we are taking classes, the best way to contact is by email.

Where are you located? Is there parking?2023-10-23T11:17:00+13:00

Studio of Sewing is located at 5/247 Dairy Flat Highway in Albany Village. There is parking available onsite, and also road parking available. The weekday classes will not have as much onsite parking available due to the other business in the complex being open (first in first served). However, evening and weekend classes will have oodles of onsite parking.

Do I have to bring my own sewing machine?2023-10-23T11:16:12+13:00

It’s best to have your own sewing machine as you get very familiar with your own machine and it becomes like a familiar old friend. Sometimes there is homework to complete, so having access to a machine outside of SoS will be beneficial. However, we do have a very limited number of machines available for hire for use during the classes. Please email [email protected] if you need to hire a machine.

Yikes, I’m not sure what class or workshop would be right for me?2023-10-23T11:15:41+13:00

That’s what we are here for; to help you work out what class is the right one. If you are familiar with how to use a sewing machine and can sew a few rows of stitching confidently, then you are perfect for our “Beginners Dressmaking Course”. If you’re a confident beginner or beyond, take a  look at our page Class Levels & Abilities, or flick us an email at [email protected] and we can work out together the classes/workshops that will be most beneficial to you.

I’ve never sewn before, where should I start?2023-10-23T11:15:13+13:00
