I’ve made a cream @fibremood #fibremooddidi. I’ve been seeing cream/winter white creeping into winter fashion for a couple of years. And I’m totally onboard for it, I think it looks really fresh & totally lifts a winter ensemble. But cream on me 😬, I’m a total clutz when it comes to attracting dirt 😅. And I can see this needing a wash after every wear lol.

I didn’t quite have a long enough zip in my zipper stash, so just added a bit of fabric to close the gap at the bottom. I could’ve made it more like a tab front & joined the centre seam - but I wanted a quick fix & this does just that.

The metal zipper stops the collar from sitting totally flat on my shoulders. And try as I might, I cannot do the zipper all the way up and fold the collar over - the collar is a bit tight for that 😬.

I lengthened the sleeve cuff & made them a bit tighter, so needed to gather the sleeve into the cuff creating a bit of a puff sleeve look, love that!! I left off the hem band & made a high-low hem instead. One of the Sewsters in class calls these hems ‘mullet hems’ - long in the back, short in the front - too funny 😂.

This is my first Fibremood pattern. The pattern pieces are quite sparse with info. No mention of how many to cut, or what pieces they are. You need to use the instructions for that info. And the pieces cut on the fold aren’t indicated like most patterns either - so check the layout instructions carefully. I can see that these could be easily missed and there could be tears at bedtime lol. They also say you don’t need to clip the corners on the collar insert if using stretch fabric, they only recommend if using thickish fabrics - but I can’t see how you can get a decent corner without clipping. Surely this would cause puckers 🤔. Anyhoo, I did clip & my corners turned out mighty fine.

Overall, pretty happy with this make. Let’s see how long I can keep it clean 😆.

A favourite top of mine has been saved 😃. The pattern is from 1986 #80ssewingpatterns, and I made this top in Sept ‘19. The fabric is a very lightweight boiled wool, that hasn’t worn well - little holes appearing in the seams. The most obvious ones on the front I’ve covered with some #katmlabels.

I do have plans (so many plans lol) to make this again. But I want to redraft some of the facings. It’s fascinating that patterns have definitely improved with the introduction of Indie pattern designers. This pattern with all its unnecessary facings is a complicated make - but simplifying the neck facings will make it easier & quicker. Indie pattern designers have definitely improved the process with their clever drafting these days.

Demo Day at the Studio this Saturday 21st May, 1pm till 4pm.

I’ve steadily been building my demo stock, and I have some amazing machines for you to have a look at (and try if that’s what you’re keen on). If you’ve been thinking about a new machine, why not pop on in and have a look 😃.

Brother Sewing Machines are so, so good! They offer enormous bang for buck, and the high end machines are packed with incredible technology.

Babylock Overlockers and Coverstitch Machines are amazing! Come along and see the amazing Airthreading technology for yourself. It’s so good!!
